Going Off to College

I’m going off to college in three years.

I think I will get in; the question’s “where?”

So far away in time, yet that date nears.

Until that time, I wait and just prepare.

In theory, preparation isn’t bad,

But applications, essays—they’re all hard.

You look upon experiences you’ve had

And then fill out an electronic card.

Just study, practice, study, practice, test,

Fill out the scantron, look up at the clock,

Without a break except the need to rest.

My freedom’s stuck in test prep; frozen block;

But soon I’ll leave for college somewhere else

And walk on through the campus as it melts.
