Going Dark In Order to Shine
I entered Senior Year confidently,
Hoping only for the best,
Thinking of the many doors that would open,
Never suspecting unfortunate events to occur.
I became consumed by a storm of many responsibilities,
More than any of my friends had ever handled at once,
More than anyone I knew had ever handled at once,
I felt alone.
Amongst them was AP Calculus AB,
A class I struggled to understand,
A class I dreaded going to,
A class, in which I hoped the teacher would explore other avenues of work.
I tried my absolute best at the class, but to no avail, I failed,
An action that was foreign to me,
But there was no denying,
I had failed.
Crying to my family only brought yelling and more crying,
In which I always tried to hide,
It was a hassle to keep my emotions to myself,
Climbing out of my despair felt like a pipe dream.
In the midst of all of this my mom informed me of a fact,
A fact that was hard to face,
But nonetheless I had to deal with it,
It was that I was about to turn 18, making me an adult.
Adults, no matter how long they’ve been so, must speak up for themselves,
Let others know when they need help,
Not be so cocky that they become disillusioned and decide,
They do not need help.
After learning this fact, I began to take charge,
I blossomed into a new being,
One who is more at peace,
One who is more confident and aware.
Today, after that unnecessarily emotional experience,
I am the strongest I have ever been,
I let nothing scare me,
I let nothing lead me towards failure.
