Going The Distance

The sun rises and the sun sets Like clockwork every day And each time it does so You grow farther away Until the halfway mark is reached And the long countdown starts How can you truly know someone When you spend most the year apart? To miss a father is one thing To miss a whole family is something else To miss your sister growing up And your brother becoming himself The time difference is a space The miles make up a gap The days create a canyon And somehow they overlap The distance now is multiplied The sorrow grown to an ache On those lonely nights when you cry But life will not wait Change will still ensue And time won’t cease to pass You will all continue to grow And it always happens fast So put your chin up child For there is not much you can do But stretch your love ever further And hope you’ll make it through
