Going, Going, Gone
Going, going, gone
In the night I knew
Something was wrong
It didn’t sit right, something askew
Little did I know the feeling was you
Going, going, gone
I heard your cries,
Only when i picked you up that it dawned
You couldn’t stand, so weak and frail
I knew my wishes would not prevail
Going, going, gone
I took you to drink a bit of water
But you would not drink, only sit and stare
I knew you weren’t there
It wasn’t you, for you were going
Going, going, gone
I bathed you in hopes it would make you feel better
But when I set you down your weight caused you to go sideways
Like you couldn’t control your limbs any longer
So I held you as you were going
Going, going, gone
I fixed your eyes but you had no reaction
I took you to my mother and left the room
In search of a distraction
But I knew your time was going
Going, going, gone
In my room my father crept
He told me to get in the car, we were getting you fries
Your favorite food, even as we wept
We knew you wanted them as you were going
Going, going, gone
We arrived back home, you and mom in the front yard
Under the sun like you loved
We tried to give you fries but you could eat no longer
You were going
Going, going, gone
We held you in our arms, not knowing what to do
I checked your pulse so many times, it was always askew
Mother sobbing, on the phone
This was the last time you’d truly be home
You were going
Going, going, gone
In the car we went
Wrapped in a towel, but i’m sure you couldn’t feel it
You didn’t see anymore, staring into the void
We didn’t like it, but you were going
Going, going, gone
In the lobby we waited
Barely making 64 bpm
When the needles came, i didn’t want to see them
You were going
Going, going, gone
Needles inserted into the catheter
Your chest began to slow
Now we knew the time was up
You were going, going,
Gone
