The Golden Kids

The Golden Kids,

That's the group everyone wants to be in.

In my school It's the kid with the AP’s that gets the recognition.

That's the Kid who will succeed.

While everyone else flunks with B’s.

Then there's me.

The mixed girl who's enrolling in those APs.

I look around my class and i'm the only colored kid.

Who is this kid? Everyone asks.

Failure, Disappointment, Useless

Is that what I am?

Am I the one who will stay behind.

Test days are coming up and I'm still lagging.

Everyone else is passing and I'm flunking with C’s

Nah man this can't be

I'm a straight A kid, yeah that's me

What am I sacred of.

I'm scared I can't make it.

I had A’s and then they turned to D’s

Were they right ?

Was I really gonna be left behind ?

NO! I'm the kid who will succeed.

I was raised to be a fighter and to work for my dreams.

Studying hard and asking questions,

Hitting the books and practicing organization.

These were all the things I practiced in order to succeed.

But I always remembered the most important deed.

Be humble and stay golden.

Practice kindness and empathy toward others.

Failure, Disappointment, and Useless no longer phased me.

Brave, Determined, and Focused is what defines me !
