GONE

The touch of his hand
His sweet blue eyes
The sparks I get from him
All gone
because I sent one stupid text

His deep voice
The warmth and smell of his sweaters
His kisses
ALL gone
Because I thought my text would make him smile

The slow dances
The moonlike swims
The hour long phone calls
ALL GONE
Because of that text

I will no longer see his gorgeous smile
Or feel his hand press against mine
My best friend
My boyfriend
My love
Buried under layers of dirt

He was almost home
Driving down an old back road
One nobody ever used

He checked his phone
Because I texted him
He didn't see the truck
Looming over the hill
Because of me

His car was totaled
The instant they collided
Because of my text

He is dead
Because of me

I thought this would never happen to me
Nobody thinks it will
But it did
It can happen to anyone

Reduce the risk of losing someone special
Don't text them when they're driving
Tell them not to text and drive
Encourage your family
Challenge your friends
Speak out against the danger
Be the one to save a life
