Gone and Departed

Hearts shed people throughout life-

like broken angels crossing time-

in the form of lovers and loved ones.

Some wake you up after they’re gone-

others startle you as they depart.

Lovers depart like a fife-

cutting silence with great sublime-

leaving you feeling like a pawn-

left behind to defend some rampart.

Loved ones are gone in a rife-

of strife that renders you a rime-

left to slowly fill a caisson-

that was once a purple heart.

Hearts shed people throughout life-

to death and trials;what a paradigm!

Tears and hurt are bodkins-

that sever souls apart when drawn-

leading them to woe like a steady dart.

Both the gone and departed drive-

minds to see life as a grime-

but that’s just bitterness - a poison-

brewed swart and sharp to look smart.

You try not to fall for the fork of life-

and death but it burns like a lime-

only to give life a zing so paragon.

All have their allotted share of this tart.

Hearts shed people throughout life-

leaving them to surprise like a wartime-

ruse meant to capture prized rimes-

from harmony’s crown playing a carillon-

to success and love being torn apart.

Choice is a dance of faith and strife-

where dime and prime chime-

hurt and loss are the carrion

that make living truly an art!
