"Good Enough"

You wake up in the morning, you straighten your hair. You put makeup on, get all dresssed up,

But nothing is good enough

You try your best to fit in. "Oh, I'm sorry.Your skin isnt the right shade, You can't get in."

The harder you work, the less credit you get.

You make the best grades in class. It makes your family happy.

But in elementary school the kids told you that your hair is too nappy.

You make yourself look presentable; well dressed.

They assume that your'e headed to an interview. I guess you can't dress nice unless you have a reason

They percieve you as someone who will never be good enough,

You'll never look the part. Nothing will ever be good enough.

When you were a little boy you probably thought that the policemen were your heros,

But as you get older, you see that some of them are intentionally killing our people.

No one is safe,

Even the innocent people are catching a case.

Now we're in 2016, another year that a young black man won't see the age of 18

But see the end of a gun held by a policeman that will end his dreams.

Another year that a young black woman won't be abe to turn her dreams into realities

But can turn unjust treatment into everyday normalities.

We can't go back and change the past.

However, we can change the future; we as a human race can change that.

We can correct the fact that we're only viewed as black.

Look at all of your accomplishments,

You are good enough; you have always been.

The most important thing about a person is their soul and personality.

Not the color of their skin.
