The Good Friend.
You meet people everyday
You sit, talk, and listen to everything they have to say
Soon enough your best friends
Late night talks, Midnight drives
bonfires, drinks, having the time of your lives.
Call by call, text by text, the only question: Where to go next?
Your always there for them, you always care
You've had a rough week, you need a little help
all of a sudden you look around.. But no one's there
They say they love you, promise to stay
But there's something you should know..
In the end.. Everyone walks away.
Left on read, you try to call but the lines gone dead
From late night secrets, to talking about the weather
All your left with is memories of the good times together
No explaination, no reason why
You lay there hoping, because they didn't actually say goodbye
You become busy, school, work, family, and all that life brings
Until one late night the phone rings
It's her, you answer with a sleepy sigh
On the other end you hear her begin to cry
You grab a cup of coffee, and walk out the door
To be there for her once more
If only she knew the nights you spent alone
Tears in your eyes, staring blankly at the phone
That's the problem with being the good friend
When your down no one offers you a hand
But you never stop to think of yourself
When she calls it's like a book you can't leave on the shelf
You will always be there till the very end
And when you die alone, five words carved in stone
"Here lies the Good Friend."
