Goodbye

It was almost too perfect.

Everything was working out.

No fights, no disagreements.

Then everything changed.

He distanced himself.

Conversations shortened, love disappeared.

She didn't want to admit,

That he was drifting away.

She held onto a sliver of hope.

“Maybe it's just a rough patch”

But that hope soon faded.

He continued to drift away

And she continued to feel the pain.

As time went on, they became strangers again.

He disappeared into himself.

She tried to move on

But her love for him remained.

No one was able to make her feel

The was he did.

She kept a piece of him

In her heart.

A mere whisper of his name

Hidden from the rest of the world.

He shut out the world

Fighting his demons at night

Faking normalcy in the daylight.

He found it difficult to let her go.

She was constantly on his mind.

Her voice haunting his every thought.

He hated himself for letting her go.

She hated herself for

Letting him push her away.

Eventually, they both came to terms

With the loss.

It was time to say goodbye.

She released the memory of him

From her heart.

He let the sound of her voice

Disappear from his mind.

They were able to say

Goodbye.

They were able to let go

Of the past

With one word.

Goodbye.
