Goodbye, My Best Friend

When he took the last breath, I knew it was real. I had not only lost my father, but the most important man in the world. The devastation was over powering, the room was spinning, and my heart was racing. The only man I have ever known was no longer sitting on his thrown. My mother by his side, holding on for dear life. As the tears rolled down my cheek, I could no longer speak. We had to say our goodbyes; the doctors could no longer try. When I heard the monitor flat line, I knew this was our last time. As I kissed his forehead, I simply bent over and said, "I love you and I'll miss you, you'll always be my bestfriend."
