Goodnight

We say goodnight at the end of the day,
When all tasks are through.
Goodnight is the phrase uttered
When we end one thing and start another.
Goodnight is for the end of tedius.
Goodnight is for the end of unpleasant conversations.
Goodnight is what we say when we want someone to just stop.
We want the world to just stop.
We want the world to hurry up and end.
We say goodnight like we say goodbye,
On a sigh or a moan or a whispered plea.
Goodnight is what we say when we're tired of "grin and bear it".
Goodnight is what we say when we're trying to be pleasant, but we really want to be left alone.
Goodnight is the only way we have to show we've had enough.
So, why is it that when we say, "Goodnight,"
They never understand our say, "You too"?
