The Grade

Cram.

Gotta’ get the grade.

Cram.

Gotta’ get the grade.

Learning doesn’t matter.

Gotta’ get the grade.

Doing all the motions,

Just to get the grade.

I’ll just pretend to listen

To your lectures,

To your rants.

To your pointing little finger,

To the gestures of your hands.

Memorize the words.

If only for a day,

Memorize the rules.

I have to get the grade.

It doesn’t really matter,

If I learn a thing or not.

Just get above a C.

And the battle has been fought.

I have to get that grade.

So I can go to college,

And spend a million dollars,

To you, that’s all that matters.

So I’ll pay to take a class,

And I’ll cram to get an A

In this twisted little system,

I will forever stay.

Until the day I graduate,

Get my diploma,

See all my debt,

I’m finally a professional.

But I’ve played into their bet.

To keep me three more years,

To train me for my job,

With zero pay,

And zero sleep,

I’ll be working like a dog.

And that time and money

Spent to build my knowledge,

Was a scam just dipped in honey

To make more money for your “college.”

But did I get a greater grasp,

On how to work in my career?

I got my A,

I got the grade,

But in the end it doesn’t matter.

I did not retain those facts

That I memorized all night.

I filled my brain to the max

Then emptied it by next day’s light.

I didn’t learn a thing,

Nothing that really matters.

But at least I got the grade,

Because that’s all the mattered.

Is that really all that mattered?
