Graduation

I once took a bite out of an apple The apple that fell not too far from the tree And not too close to the roots You see the roots evoke the story A story of preservation rivaled by trepidation An underdog story, The story of all we are and all we will be The story of what brought us here, to this moment Cause every exam, essay and debate don't do us justice The truth is we survived We survived social warfare Bombarded by bad influences and constant temptations The lies that media feeds us, Cause obviously we need the most expensive clothes to be somebody It was a sour apple Lackluster, damaged goods It was like most of the apples that fell early Swept away by a world wind of lies Pulled down by the gravity of their environment Gangs, guns and drugs No matter where you live No matter whom you are You've encountered some form of these threats Cause its true, six degrees of separation We've all lost someone too soon Lost to the world, lost by nature But apples still remain There those are that are at the top of the tree Still persevering, still growing These are the apples that represent us They are the fruits of our labor And as we continue to grow, They grow with us They aren't done growing but They sure aren't close to falling We're one step closer to ripening those apples And I assure you that they will be sweet We can pick them, with baskets entitled "We Made It!" We're not there yet but we move ever closer Let tonight be the night That you promise that you won't pick that apple too soon Cause I know it feels like we've accomplished a lot But there is so much more to accomplish Let us not forget what got us here What inspired us to persevere Let us be patient Let us handle our apples with care And let us grow!
