Grampa
They say he is hard of hearing,
but I don’t need to shout when I talk to him.
They say he is losing his memory,
but he doesn’t struggle to remember the stories we recount.
They say he is losing his strength and balance,
but I don’t need to help him stand or cross the street.
They say he is short tempered and irritable,
but he is sweet and patient with me.
They say he gets bored and lonely,
but he is social and friendly to me and everyone he encounters.
They talk so much negativity about the elderly,
but I just don’t see it.
Breakfast with grampa.
They say I have to go,
I say that I can’t wait to go.
