Grandchild
I am the daughter of a daughter
the proud grandchild of immigrants
whom left so many years ago
to set a new path
in stone
amongst the unknown
I am the unspoken hope
as my parents first daughter
to become the woman
who writes her destiny
with a pen and paper
and a mind full of curiosity
I am the child of burden
and of blessing
and of dreams, desires, and “I wanna be”s
noiselessly holding generations
and generations
of selfless expectations
yet trying to be me
best
I am just a kid
growing into my skin
figuring where I fit
in this puzzle I live in
but all the while
runs the blood of the people
whom I owe my life
and would proudly call
my grandparents
