Grandfather

Dear individual that not once lived up to be a grandparent,

You stripped me of my childhood, my innocence

Not once providing genuine love or affection

Leaving me with fragmented memories, its painful vividness.

Never once thought it’d be you I question

I feel sick knowing I wished your visits would be final

Now feeling uneasy in your presence

Anxiously attending family dinners and scouting the scene immediately upon arrival

Only to feel relieved in your absence

Like some sick predator, you toyed with me

Luring me into an isolated room where I was doomed helpless

Taking advantage of an oblivious six year, you could not just let me be

Now I am left with reoccurring nightmares, only growing restless

Your lack of morality has portrayed you as a monster

I blame you for my inability to give others a second chance

I am incapable of glancing at your face understanding now what you did

Leaving me scarred, and like a scar you have left on me your irremovable mark

And so my letter to you is not out of kindness

But more of forgiveness

Because although I will never be able to forget

It’s how I’ll move on, leaving you in an abyss of regret
