Grandfather

You passed at the first break of dawn

And are now forever gone.

The sun's first light

Sent you off on your flight

Oh, how I miss you

And all the little things you do.

How you would chase me down the halls

And drive grandma up the wall.

You were always there to hold me,

"Don't be scared" is what you told me.

But how can I not?

When they've all but nearly forgot.

And I have to.

I can barely recall your eyes were blue.

Or that wide grin

That the house always had a quiet din.

How you were so tall

And your smile that was never small

How your ears were so big

and you would always help me dig.

I can't help, but to wish you were still here,

That way I wouldn't have any fear.

But if you were,, I would have never grown up

Or been, as they say, up to snuff.

I love you, I miss you

And I would never dismiss you,

But it's time to go.
