Grandma

my grandmother whispered

the sweet sugar of wisdom

into my young ears

and I soaked it in

like a thirsty sponge

"My love, do not underestimate"

i reached up to catch the words

falling from her mouth

"the power of your words."

and they tasted

like sweet sugar.

when her cancer

took her will from her

i knew

it was time to say goodbye

and so I placed my small arms

around her

and whispered sweet sugar

into her tired ears

"I love you."
