To Grandmother's House

She rode in on the forest green,

Into a path she’d never seen.

I tried to help her find her way,

She never stayed to hear what I’d say.

The path she took was full of snakes,

As she carried a basket full of cakes.

The forest swayed with a wicked grin,

As it tried to nibble on her chin.

I chased and chased and ran and ran,

Nothing I did could make her understand.

Instead I saw where she was headed,

To visit her Grandmother's house insteaded.

I waited there for what seemed like years,

When I looked outside she was close to tears.

While I contemplated the reason why,

I saw a boy in a suit and tie.

He had knelt to the ground in a proposal of love,

Instead he had found terror from above.

With a cry and a shout from the grandmother inside,

I saw my dear wolf friend descend without guide.

When I saw that scene, I understood

I did exactly what I knew I should.

The girl stared down with teary eyes,

At the boy she loved saved from demise.

She looked above in a wonder,

To ask her Savior why he thought to save her lover .

With a wolfish grin and a dimpled smirk,

I told her I wasn’t a complete jerk.

With a tip of my hat and a click of my shoes,

I told her that there was nothing else to lose.

Her grandmother was safe outside the mouth,

And she and the boy could descend safely south.

I turned away with remorse in my heart,

My friend is gone and the feeling is tart.

The forest told me to go home at ten,

And leave Little Red Riding Hood once again.
