Granted Paper
How did I end up here?
In the midst of all the loneliness and tears,
as i struggle to survive and flourish, in a place full of fears.
How did I end up here?
on a small deserted island where no one could hear,
and the only companions I had were the evil voices in my head that i’ve always feared.
How did I end up here?
Making a list in my head, I think of all my possessions that I wish i could have here,
of all the items that could have been resourceful, if only I had known.
How did I end up here?
As silence envelopes me and i crave human interaction,
I begin to talk to just about everything around me.
How did I end up here?
I make another list,
a list of all the people in my life that i have ever taken for granted,
as I wish they were here.
How did I end up here?
Waking up away from all that i have ever known,
I begin to listen and see things that i never would have before,
hearing the beauty in everything around me without societies input.
How did I end up here?
The longer I am here on this deserted island, with just me and my thoughts,
the more I begin to realize what life is really about.
How did I end up here?
Although I desperately want my family here with me,
for them to comfort me on sad days, or to make a me laugh and even chase the nightmares away,
I know now that I can’t.
How did I end up here?
I wouldn’t want to bring them to this place with me,
because although I may miss and love them a lot, they are not what I need.
How did I end up here?
What I want and need is something simple,
nothing big, and it is often taken for granted.
How did I end up here?
I don’t need materialistic items to make me happy,
but there is one item that I desperately wish I had with me.
How did I end up here?
I have now learned the values of life and the beauty in everything,
but the one item that I wish I had with me on this island is something I never thought I would live without.
How did I end up here?
I don’t need much in life to have a happy one,
but on this island I need one thing desperately,
and the item that I wish I brought with me is…
a lifetime supply of two-ply toilet paper.
