The Grapevine

Circling the world with an iron grip

Blooming in the towns and cities

Sowing seeds of anger and hate

Poisoning the human mind

The Grapevine grows in shadow

Rumors; its branching roots

Doubt; its protection against Truth’s light

Pain; its bountiful yield

From lips to ear, this wild flower grows

Passing behind the hands of its farmers

As if its presence cannot be seen

By all who reap its harvest

Why does our world rely on such produce?

Why must we cultivate such a vine?

How can such a vile weed survive

When we strive for peace?

Certainly it’s time to weed Earth’s green garden

To rid our society of the Grapevine

That strangles us, suffocating

The peace and love we search for.

Let us grow a new vine

Joining hands around the world

To circle in an open embrace

Instead of a smothering clasp

Let us raise a new flower

To curl around the fingers of every happy soul

To reach into the bare, cracked worlds

And bring life into them again.

Together, a change for the better:

A surplus of happiness, not anger

A Grapevine of understanding and support

To cure a world addicted to hate.
