Grass Stains

Oh say can you see?

Those knees taking grass stains

But it’s worth it to make a change, right?

What’s my knee going to do

No progress will be made

So why should I get grass stains?

Through this perilous fight

I see black and brown

Kneeling on the ground

They’ll get stains

But you have to understand

I was always told to stand

I've always been expected to stand

But if he is standing

If she is standing

They’re all standing

Shouldn’t I stand too?

The bombs bursting in air

But now it’s whizzing bullets

I kneel for the brother

Who was shot by the cop

For no reason at all

Except that he was black

Blood staining his favorite white tee

I'll take these stains

If you don’t stand

Then you aren’t a patriot

You are a disgrace

That star spangled banner still waves

So put hand over beating heart

For soldiers who died

For the white males who fought

Forget about the backs

The brown and black backs on which we stand

For in the land of the free

We forget about the sisters

The brothers

The people

Stomped on time, and time again

Just give it up

C’mon just stand!

God bless my America

But it needs to do better

It needs to be better

So I'll take these stains
