gratitude

She started with an apology,

the thing that would soon become an anomaly.

It provoked thought in my mind,

pushed memories to the forefront

and borught tears to my eyes.

I thought I was doing the best thing for them.

Building their confidence with each compliment I shared.

I didn't know I was debilitating them,

possibly making it even harder for them to grow.

She made me realize that I forgot to mention so much more about who they are;

They are smart, they are powerful beyond measure.

Her apology.

My gratitude.
