A Gravestone Is Not Your Friend

Sun, 07/26/2015 - 18:00 -- tbell

I am not your friend

So do not seek me.

Seek the wind.

Seek the flowers.

But not me,

As I am just a rock.

Do not tap on my non-existent shoulder

Looking for comforting words,

For all you will feel is the granite.

I am not the name that you remember saying,

That is now engraved upon me.

I am not the dates that you do not like to see,

That has been scribed into me.

I am a rock,

We cannot have a comforting talk like he would do with you.

For I am not able to comfort you as he did.

I am not your friend.

Your friend is the wind that blows around your shoulder in a safe embrace,

Your friend is the flowers that bloom around me that you smile at.

Your friend is the spirit that lovingly surrounds you.

Your friend is not me,

For I am just a rock.
