The Graveyard / The Devil's Playground

I brought flowers for my mother

The sweet smell of roses filled the everlasting sorrow

In my heart

It’s been years I tell myself

I can’t help but bring roses every year

To my mother’s grave

Every year at 9 p.m.

I buy the roses at my local grocery store

Drive to the graveyard and walk

To my mother’s grave

I set the roses down and say my yearly prayer

The routine is always the same

But tonight felt different

Something eerie

I’m walking back to the car

When I hear a rustle in a nearby bush

It’s probably a squirrel I say to myself

Although I have a bad feeling I am being watched

I quicken the pace to my car

Maybe I should have listened to that eerie feeling I say

But it’s too late

A bush in the distance starts violently shaking

My panic increases

I am almost to my car when I hear it

A man

He seems to be talking to someone

I couldn’t make out what is being said

I take a quick glance behind me

He looks straight at me

Fear strikes through me

I run

Where’s my keys?

Where’s my keys?

I must have left them at my mother’s grave

He runs after me

There’s no way I can outrun him

Then darkness

Part 2:

I wake up

It’s cold and humid

I look around but it’s pitch black

Something stirs near me in the dark

Panic hits me once again

Part 3:

He won’t shut up!

His cries are pitiful
No one will hear him

I light a match

He looks at me with fear in his eyes

The match goes out

I laugh lighting another match

He tries to move only to realize

He is tied up

I mutter to myself

“He is the one”

“He is the next sacrifice”

The young man looks at me

With fear and confusion in his eyes

I pity the young man as he doesn’t know

He will be dead soon

Part 4:

I’m tied up

I can’t hear what he is saying

I’ve only caught a glimpse of him

He keeps talking

I finally make out “He is the one”

My blood turns ice cold

The man’s match burns out

I hear footsteps

The sound of a blade against stone

Moves closer towards me

I try to scoot away

Crawl away

Anything

Silence fills the room instantly

The blade stops scraping the wall

The silence is horrifying

The pressure in the air is dense

The feeling of breathing has left me

Part 5:

Finally he is dead

I pick up his lifeless body

And carry it out into the cold night

The happiness in my heart has expanded

The feeling of satisfaction is great

I drag the young man’s body

Down to the pond

Where all the other bodies lie

Rotting in the dark green water

The devil shall take this sacrifice

The pond is the devil’s playground

It shall always be the devil’s playground
