Graveyard Gossip

The grass stands small

Standing together in perfect order

More respect that way

So the Lilies say

The Lilies, huddling in groups

Whisper their snide remarks about the Roses

Each clustered in delicate heaps across stone slabs

“They fade so quickly”

Interject the haughty sunflowers with faces of darkened shine

Above them all, glossy feathered crows cackle in mock humor

At all the petty ladies below

At their brief lives spent in lying forgotten

To die atop the cold, grey stone

The crows, with their freedom, mercilessly peck

At the flowers and dig holes in the grass

To where the worms hide

The worms, citied below the ever dug-up ground

Frenzy to sink lower

Six feet below

To where dinner lies forgotten

Packed in convenient boxes
