Great Blue
I was playing catch one day,
And watched my new ball fly away.
Incredulous at what I saw,
The sky opening its great blue maw.
It swallowed up my shiny ball,
It chewed regardless of my call.
The great blue cloudless empty sky,
Never tried to heed my cry.
I cut my loss and sulked away,
No longer with a ball to play.
And every long day after that,
I'd go outside and tilt my hat.
Up until 'round noon one day,
The great big blue sky did say.
"Sorry I took your ball away,
I just though it'd be fun to play.
I can't give you back your ball,
My great blue grip won't let it fall.
But I'll make you a deal, there,
I'll keep the ball and we'll just share."
So with the sky the ball did stay,
I go and visit everyday.
Up in the sky the ball did shine,
No longer was it only mine.
