Great Grandma

From the beginning we traded hearts

You stole mine and I stole yours

The bond we built could not be shattered

We had each other and that’s all that mattered

I’ve been blessed with this life I live

To experience a love only you could give

You watched me grow all these years

You made me smile and dried my tears

When they laughed and I cried

You made everything feel alright

You kept me safe and when I grew

I devoted me life to protecting you

My illness made me feel strange

What you told me made my thoughts change

You made me feel like royalty

Perfection’s what you saw in me

They tell me to move on

But I’ll never let you go

There are pieces of your character

Stitched into my soul

You were the wisest one I knew

Never wrong, only spoke the truth

You said heaven was for real

You told me to believe it and I will

You are the leaver, so I’m the waiter

Because you promised

It’s not goodbye, its I’ll see you later
