The Great Hypnotist

A dollar

the hypnotist of all.

A soft, wrinkled, thin piece of paper

crumpled carelessly into a pocket.

But giving the value to escape

from the hands that grasp it like a locket.

Up into a distant, unclear, thin cloud of ambition

is the dream of what’s not guaranteed.

The vision of the American mission

evokes a feeling of greed.

Control.

Like the urge not to break the money jar,

shattering pieces of glossy glass and shiny coins

all to purchase a fancy car.

But the cloud is now gone.

With the snap of the hypnotist's fingers,

a grey sky of reality has dawned.

Where the raindrops fall like change into a piggy bank

from the pocket of dreams.
