A Great Man Unknown

How can someone you've never met before, make you teary eyed? Someone who's never been in your life, but was suppose to be there? A person to sing you birthday For each year you got older The one who'd tell you the same old story over and over Telling you, it would help you later on That person you would see everyday with their true love As you'd see them grow old together Holding hands watching their grandkids grow And to always have that person's unconditional love No matter how bad you screw up in life Someone to take you on adventures with And to visit those exact places they did long ago A person to always remember In your heart and mind So that they don't get forgotten Like the boxes filled With pictures of you Hugging and smiling at the camera with the rest of the family Old film left blank Just waiting for you To record another day at the beach Dusty old watches lay crumpled at the bottom of the box Frozen in time hoping you'd come back to start them up again Lying in the corner is a Redskin yearbook of '68 In which lies your name "Wesley W. Upchruch" All those memories in that box Is the closest I'll ever get to him For he is gone As I smile and cry over the remains of his past Knowing I may never know the whole story But all that matters is that he will always be a Great man
