THE GREATEST COST

i traded my boundless fields

for a dull monotone

i pushed away immesurable joy

for the religion of routine

all for what?

can one put a price on the romance of childhood?

when we took time to notice the intricate beauty of rain on backseat windows,

unbenownced to why it fell?

awe. wonder. beauty.

alas, these notions i have lost

in my admission to society.
