The Greatest Heroes

The sweat on my mother's forehead

The blisters on my father's hands

The black sweater that my mother wears

That's slowly losing its strands

The wide smile that my father gives me

As soon as he walks into the door

The consistent aura of positivity

That I've never told him I adore

The sound of my father's snores

As he chases distant sleep

The promise to stay silent

The promise I shall keep

The time that they never seem to find

To focus on themselves

The endearing family photos

perched upon the shelves

The love

The need

The want

But lack of greed

The perfect advice

The constant strenuosity

The warm tenderness

The faithful generosity

They inspire me to be brave

To work hard and never give up

To be proud of who I am

To see a "half full" cup

They've inspired me, supported me,

Have done nothing but praise me

My greatest heroes

Are the one's who raise me
