The Greatest Truth

Pain weighs down my fragile soul;

flood-gates thrown wide open

exposing the hurt.

Solace, I seek,

but to no avail

until pen meets paper.

Raw emotion paints a scene.

Breathe in, pain out.

Words fall quickly into place.

Clarity prevails.

Sense restored.

Pain lingers no more.

A memory left behind,

ready for the next time

when pain leaves me breathless,

without words to speak

and no one to comfort.

Writing is my constant companion.

She never lets me down,

reminds me I can get through.

And she is always right.

Happiness elevates my weightless soul;

a smile returns with weathered eyes,

exposing the truth.
