The Green

And now I sit here in the green Watching the world about me live. Knowing that, at once, I am Both nothing and everything to this forest. As one life amongst all creation, To this forest, I am but a speck within. My words and movements are barely noticed By the many lives around me – Tree, bird, grey squirrel, soft pale moss. Amongst these wonders, I am tiny, A mere dot on the earth, But all at once, I am more! This forest needs my gentle care. Without my love others will come, Others who do not know this grace, Who will seek to trade its beauty For a green they covet without thought. Now, this forest we can save, As you who share my deepest care, For by our words and movements We can stay these others, We can save the green that is. We must save the green that is. It is for that stunning truth I, who may never be thanked or ever known, Still must work to save this luscious green For those who, like myself, Rely on this grove. I learned this truth As I sat there, embraced by this green.
