The Grey
The world is not black and white,
But only shades of grey,
If the path is so narrow,
How am I never to stray?
If this friendship is to last,
There must be a breaking away.
Even when feeling fear, I’ll leap into the fray.
If there is a higher authority, I must surely obey.
The bed I make is the bed in which I must lay.
Will I ever find the strength to say,
The world is never black and white,
And I must struggle through the grey.
All my plans have fallen into disarray,
I know I just can’t stay,
To live this life is to fall into decay,
I know I’ve lost my way,
The world is not black and white,
But only shades of grey.
In darkness, in light,
In shadow, in flight,
The flames drawing closer, my heart growing colder,
Where are you now?
How can I find you in the grey?
Why is the light never pure?
Why do the shadows call to me?
Why isn’t the world black and white,
But only shades of grey?
I must endure the night,
I must brave the fight,
I must find the light,
For the world is truly black and white,
And the lies come in shades of grey.
There will always be black and white,
And we must escape the grey.
Are we alone?
Where is the light?
This has to be wrong,
This just can’t be right.
Must we save ourselves?
Must we? Can we?
Show me the light before I fall into darkness,
I’m falling into the black with no hope of coming back,
I don’t know jack, my soul is on the rack,
I’m stretched thin between the black and white,
My soul caught in the grey.
I can’t deny, I can’t lie, I just want to die.
See the hopelessness in my eye,
Seek comfort within this hell,
Is this even real?
I die again, let me die for you.
For already I die over and over,
My heart growing colder.
If this is true, then I’m through,
Let me be born anew.
I finally understand the grey.
The world is black and white,
Yet we’re caught in the grey.
This is a new day, escape the grey,
I live for you today.
Kill the grey, just kill the grey,
The world is black and white,
Let me step into your light,
Don’t ignore my plight,
For you I will fight,
Just keep the grey at bay.
