Grey People

Black people.

White people.

Races segregated by history

But this story

Was written outside the history books.

In crowded nooks

In abandoned hallways

This future writes itself.

New school and old school receive a shock to the system

As a new generation rages against the mundane.

Loving cases bring up untold secrets

Big time performers like Keys address a taboo circumstance.

No one wants to talk about

This new hybrid

But mama always said the prettiest crayons

Were the purples and the greens.

Perhaps a mixing of the cultures isn’t such a bad thing.

Perhaps learning could take place.

An entire lifetime of sameness

Can’t be erased in an instant

But a world can be rocked by a step.

Loosing the chains of color swatches

Could produce an uprising

But leaving the sameness could result in-

It is possible the future

Doesn’t know what to do with this new

Is it afraid to face the final frontier?

If we all take future by the hand and lead it

Could it withstand the impact of integrated hearts and minds?

Or will the offspring of the present

Simply remain black and white?

Cheerio commercials

Aren’t the only things out at night.

I am the grey.

We are not out to bite.

I love music. When I write I hear a rhythm that matches the words I put on paper (or type) and that's usually reflected in my pieces. My lines and poems sound best when put to a beat.
