Grey: a Poem of Color
Every morning I wake
And get ready for school
No more “Good mornings”
Or “I love you too.”
I drive my grey car
And attend my grey class.
Check my phone
Even though it’s grey.
I was fine with grey,
It was the same as before,
But then a rainbow appeared
And colors drowned the grey.
I wandered out of my home,
I wanted to see the whole world.
All the colors bright
Now that I had my rainbow.
Finally, I saw happiness
And laughed without fear
Not a speck of grey did I see,
While my rainbow was here.
Beautiful skies and afternoons,
and the world I did love.
But the top of the list,
Did my rainbow stand above.
I created dreams and ideas
And excelled in all,
A fire lit in my chest
When I, in love, did fall.
My rainbow left,
As fast as she came.
I tried to make the colors come back,
Festivities, herbs and drinks.
It only made the grey darker,
And I cry grey tears,
Slowly drowning.
Will I ever see that rainbow again?
Will she ever bring color to my grey?
Will the grey tears stop?
No.
But now I dream:
I dream of lush fields of tulips and roses
Every color vibrant and the sun bright.
I dance with my rainbow and stop the tears,
How I wish it were real.
I wake again.
And there’s grey.
