Grey Shorts
Dear society,
I once bought a pair of grey shorts. They would be appropriate for most events and sorts, but my mother said no and I wondered why not. I thought they were cute and I liked them a lot. My mother said "don't expose yourself , you're showing too much leg." It was one of the most mind jumbling thoughts that creeped and crawled into my head. I twisted and turned that night, pondering on the reasons of why my legs were such a big problem. They were a God given gift that I was not going to miss, so in order to take it, I might as well be swift.
Then I started to think about the world, and the females living in it. I thought about the expectations the world put on young women. Tearing them up bit by bit, then while they are in a daze, they throw them into a craze and say have at it.
Now when I bought the shorts I was not trying to lure any men. I was just buying shorts I thought I looked pretty in. The shorts made me fell great. Is that too much of a crime? I just started to accept my brown skin that got so much hate. And I was NOT... let me repeat... NOT trying to send a bad message. I was just buying shorts for the summer and I can't even wear them... what a bummer.
Ya know, my mom said another thing that my thoughts in a tsunami type flow. She said, "Lele wear them when you're older and you are able to deal the men, and the crazy things they are going to say once you've got their attention." Huh, I thought coo but why should they stop me from being me. Now I'm not naive to the incredibly stupid realities of social media and tv, which tells young girls that if they show their skin that ultimately means that they want men sleeping in bed with them. WHAT?! That reality is driving me to insanity, because at the end of the day I'm just trying to do me and be a young lady.
But also isn't that contradicting? All I see is girls being sexualized right before my eyes. Like how... how in the world does a baby commercial goes from innocent children to vixen like women, wearing bear minimum. I am baffled and i really don't know what the producers of these commercials were thinking. I was just trying to watch my show Teen Titans Go.
Why is the world so confusing, amusing and most of all abusing to the hearts and minds of young women? I know my mom is just trying to protect me. But she doesn't know that I'm insecure, unfortunately her biggest fear is making sure that her little baby won't stay pure.
So, yes that's why I wanted to wear shorts because they make me feel beautiful. Apparently, it's not up to me because I don't want to have to be a temptation to the warped minds of some men.
