Grief

I cannot describe the sensation

of the ground abruptly slipping away

beneath my feet.

Grief has a way of being just like that.

The sudden transition from living,

existing, breathing,

to a corpse devoid of personality,

of the particular glimmer in a grandfather’s eye,

being indifferently shut away in a coffin

and lowered into the ground

to decompose until not even their

bones can indicate what

stardust soul resided in their

formerly skin and blood husk.

Some days,

you miss even their smile

or their peculiar habits

or the certain way they

say things

so much that you

resent the same entity

that gave them their life to begin with -

life itself.
