Growing Up

When I was younger Growing up was a dream A dream I know would take long But I thought would be worth it What I want to know Is what happened to that The wanting to grow up And be like all the adults Little did I know That I needed to cherish that time That I had time to want to be an adult When that time got closer Oh my how I thought started to change as I got older I started to see the world for what it was And I knew it wasn't the world that was changing But it was me becoming less naive It was me doing the changing And boy did I change Learning about the birds and the bees Perhaps a bit too much Because we may be protected from them as children and teens But are we really Now that I've almost reached adulthood I know that my dreams of it as a kid Were really only dreams That won't come true Yes, I'm still young And may not seem to know what I'm talking about But I know much more about the world than I should And I am not the only one this way Though adulthood may not be like my childhood dreams I know that it will have its great moments More great than not For the real world may be cruel The great people in my life will me to not always think about this There is always a light at the end of the tunnel
