Growing

We will pinky swear,
Promise,
And try to converse with others,
The things that our heart wants to hold close.

We grow not only in our own body,
But in our minds,
On the inside.

From our once innocent eyes,
To the present reality of our long gaze,
That lingers in the distance.

We swing on the play set,
And bound in the mud,
Thinking first about the joy,
And then the people that surround us.

What once started out as a finger wrapped around a finger,
Is turned into a life of hope.
