Growing

I watched my sister grow up

and I would say to my dad,

“I don’t want to be a teenager”

Feeling lost and looking to be found

My dad said to me,

“Oh, but you will be”

I watched my grandparents grow old

and I would say to my parents,

“I don’t want this to happen to you”

Full of life yet having so little left to live

My parents said to me,

“Oh, but we will be”

I watched the world around me grow

and I would say to myself,

“I hope I grow with you”

Strong

And the world said to me,

“You won’t ever stop”
