growing up
Growing up she wondered who she'd become
a child born of hardship with little hope to see the sun
from a country of oppression her story began
with a mother burdered with pain and regret
and a father bearly a man
a sickly child who's days seemed numbered
a sickly child who's nights echoed with anguised screams and bruises
she often marvaled at the hurt youth could endure
the betrales only children knew how to forgive
the dissappointments they learened to associate with hope
A hope came to her in the shape of a plane
a country that was only a name
and a mother who's strenght seemed infinate
In this new hope she gained a future
a tommorow that was no longer as uncertain
but the cost of tomorrow was innocence
no longer was she a baby with the privlige of ignorance
she was now aware
aware of the misgivings that were her burdens to bare
burdens the began with the word divorce
growing up she wondered who she's become
a stepchild ugly, odd, and often alone
her days filled with hatefull taunting
accompanied with self loathing
her nights plauged by anguished screams and dark bruises
many nights her tears cradled her to sleep
wishing the rain would wash her from this world that didn't seem fit for her
a forginer who didn't fit society
an outsider who didnt fit at home
growing up she wondred who she'd become
she prayed to be stronger so that she may survive
she prayed to avoid the trap the that seemed to own her mother's life
she prayed to bocome a beacon of light on her siblings lives
she prayed to defeat her past so as to claim her future
she prayed as she wondered who she'd become
today she looks in the mirror at the women she is
no longer is she sickly
no longer is she defined by the word divorce
no longer does she call herself ugly
no longer is she alone
her scars still are there but they too have faded with time
her heart though sometimes still is broken has slowly begun to heal
she is women who is strong and confident
she has been forged in the flames of hardship
and has emerged victorious
she no longer wonders who she will become
because she knows who she is
she is me and I am her
and our future is the world
