Growing Up
I remember a time long ago,
When I played outside all day.
I gained many scars and lifelong friends.
But as time went on,
I could no longer be ignorant of the world that surrounds me:
Mental illnesses, deaths, and growing older myself
Caused confusion.
I hated more than one heart could take,
And not just that angsty teen kind of hate.
I wasted time being angry at a confusing world,
So much time that I would never get back
My scars were no longer from playing outside,
But from dealing with emotional trauma
With no knowledge on how to cope.
That is when I realized I was not a kid anymore.
My emotions were complex
Similarly to this world.
I let go of the hate that overflowed in my heart for so long,
My weak muscle did not shatter, though.
Instead, I felt void of emotion completely,
Like my heart had drained of every possible emotion, not just hate .
I was yet again left confused and vulnerable to a world that once gave me no worries.
I was not a kid anymore.
So I took it upon myself to learn that I am worthy of love,
And that those around me deserve to be loved as well.
My new goal in life was no longer focused on just academic.s
I wanted to be better.
I want to be better,
Do better,
Emotionally and mentally.
And not just for my own happiness,
Because I also learned that sometimes we have to be selfless
Even in this merciless world.
I grew up influenced by traumatic experiences,
But the world did not break me.
I am stronger than before
And more prepared to take on my future.
