Growing Up

No one told me growing up would be so hard,

That girls would call me names in the schoolyard.

No one told me my mom would look for new love,

Or how she would put me down and raise him above.

No one told me that he could be a danger,

Or that he would harass me until we were strangers.

But as we grow older we learn new things,

We meet new people and have summer flings.

Through all the pain and hurt endured,

I've learned to be less insecure.

To take this in I can guarantee,

I now know the person I aspire to be.
