Growing Up

My hands are dirty

I remember washing them

in the Burgerking dish sink

big enough for a pig to bathe in

That was over 6 years ago

bit I still taste the fried chicken on my fingertips

still take orders in my sleep

First jobs are like first loves

clinging to you asking for a second chance

You couldn’t pay me enough

I pull into the drive through

an eerie feeling adrift

like morning fog rolling in

I’m not who I was then

and this moment will disappear come afternoon
