Growing Up

No one told me this would be hard

The decisions, the worries, the “what ifs.”

I have plans, but can I reach them?

My parents tell me I need to be responsible,

Yet treat me like a child.

I am in charge of my own life,

But oblige to my parents rules.

I’m old enough to converse with the adults

And young enough to be counted as a child.

I’m still not taken seriously.

I praise the idea of growing up

As well as fear the mistakes I will encounter.

Am I this person who people expect so much of?

I don’t want to let anyone down.

No one told me growing up would be hard.

Am I ready?
