growing up

I come from a hard working middle class family. As a child, I  had many dreams. I wanted to be an astronaut but as I grew older, my mind began to change. I had an uncle whom I dearly loved with all my heart. He was a great man but unfortunately he was blind. I was so close to my uncle that I felt as if I was blind as well. It felt as if the earth's surface cracked open into two pieces and I had been swallowed inside. My uncle took it like a champ, he was a religious man always taking my brother and I to church. He would tell me that things happen for a reason and he was grateful for still being alive. The years went on, but until never forget that day when I felt for soccer practice. I felt as if i had forgotten something at home.

After practice, my godmother picked me up from the park and took me to her house, there I was told that that my uncle had a heart attack while I was at practice. I felt myself fall hard while the ground was sucking me into the darkness with all its might. My uncle was my best friend. I would help him check his diabetes everyday while listening to the radio and keeping him company. My best friend was gone. I thought to myself of all the other people that might be in the same situation my uncle was in. I felt growing up was going to be this devistating without my uncle. Out of all the things that my uncle taught me, I realize now that never giving up was the best lesson that man had ever taught me.  From
