Growing Up: It's Hard

When we were kids, we thought growing up would be fun
However, as we age we realize we just want to be done

During senior year everyone said “wait, slow down”
We all looked at them like they were some clown

Accepted to college, accepted for financial aid
That’s when we realized they were looking at grades

Leaving the nest was the hardest thing to do
Especially when mommy said “please don’t leave my womb”

The day I grow up has yet to come
But until that day I will not be a bum

Working will be my new best friend
Because those student loans will have no end

I’m going to make friends, I will get my degree
I will grow up one day and feel free

I know this poem sounds childish, I know it sounds cheesy
But I’m slowly realizing life isn’t easy
